Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a PC steel wire or twisted wire of high toughness at low temp. having a decarburized layer on the surface by subjecting decarburization treatment to the surface of a steel wire during production process then cold drawing the same. CONSTITUTION:This steel wire or twisted wire has a uniformly diffused or perfectly decarburized layer of >=0.08mm. thickness on the surface thereof. To produce this, a piano wire material of, for example, JIS SWR S77B is heated in an oxidation decarburizing atmosphere of an increased air-to-fuel ratio in a patenting heating furnace using LPG as fuel. It is next subjected to pantenting by being immersed in a lead bath vessel, so that a decarburized layer is formed on the surface of the wire material in such a manner that the diffused or perfectly decarburized layer in the final section is >=0.08mm.. Thence, this wire material is pickled, and is cold-drawn down to a final diameter, whereby the product is obtained.
