Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a high carbon alloy steel wire rod having uniform fine pearlite structure by subjecting a slab to hot rolling, finish rolling, coiling and slow cooling under specific temp. conditions.
CONSTITUTION: First, hot rolling of a slab is started by controlling its heating temp. to below 950°C. In the intermediate stage before finish rolling, the slab is forcibly cooled with water to control its temp. to below 950°C, thence it is subjected to finish rolling. Thence, it is forcibly cooled and coiled at 600W750°C, after which it is slowly cooled at ≤1°C/sec cooling rates during the process of cooling and conveying. Thereby, it is made into the uniformly fine pearlite structure in an as rolled state and green drawing is made possible without application of a reheating treatment such as softening and annealing; in addition, the wire rod of the sound surface state free from any scale crack flaws is obtained at that time.
