Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce Al billets having no fins in a large amt. by tilting a tilting spout provided below a runner cooperatively with the progression of molds. CONSTITUTION:Molten aluminum in a holding furnace 1 is flowed through a runner 3 into a tilting spout 5, wherein the flow rate is regulated by the cooperation of a melt level gage 4 and a regulating gate 2 in such a way as to attain a prescribed rate. On the other hand, molds 8 are progressed intermittently and in accordance with this, a cam 10 is rotated by a roller chain 11, and when one mold 8 comes to right under a tundish 6, the cam 10 erects to force the spout 5 upward. Therefore, the spout 5 tilts with a hinge 15 as a fulcrum, and the molten metal flows through the trough port into the tundish 6 at a prescribed rate. At the same time, it is cast through the outflow hole of the tundish 6 into the mold 8. In this case the molten metal flowed out through the spout port flows to the outflow port along the trough channel of the tundish 6 and therefore the flow and interruption of the molten metal from the trough 5 up to the mold 8 are perfect, and the generation of fins is prevented.
