Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the damage at high temp. and a leak of a soln. and to enhance the heat resistance by combinedly using spot welding with laser beams and sealing with an adhesive. CONSTITUTION:Glass substrates of an EC display cell to be joined together are directly spot-welded with laser beams at several position, and an adhesive is allowed to penetrate into the gap between the substrates to carry out sealing. Thus, the substrates are joined together. In the figure, 10 is each spot-welded part. By heating with laser beams, very small parts can be heated to a high temp. in a short time, so influence is not exerted on other part. Even if the bonding strength of the sealant 8 is reduced by heat, since the welded parts 10 bind firmly the glass substrates together, force concentrates on the parts 10, and peeling force is not applied to the sealant 8. Since the gap berween the glass substrates is kept uniform with the parts 10, the swelling of the sealant is prevented, and a leak of an electrolytic soln. 5 is inhibited.
