Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain prescribed waterproof and moistureproof properties and prescribed mechanical strength by forming a high molecular electric conductor layer on the outside of an optical fiber and a metallic coat on the outside of the conductor layer. CONSTITUTION:A base material 1' for an optical fiber is heated and drawn into an optical fiber 1 having a desired diameter with a spinning furnace 5, and the fiber 1 is passed through a coating device 6 such as a coating vessel provided with dies to form a high molecular electric conductor layer 2 of 7, 7, 8, 8- tetracyano-p-quinoditan TCNQ with 10-2X10<4>mho.cm<-1> electric conductivity or the like on the outside of the fiber 1. A plating metal 3' for metallic coating such as tin or zinc is put in a plating tank 8 holding a plating soln. 9 as an anode, power supplying rollers 10 are arranged at the outside of the tank 8, and the metal 3' and the rollers 10 are connected to a DC power source 11. The coated optical fiber 2 is passed through a prescribed route by the guide of guide rollers 7a, 7b and the rollers 10 to form a metallic coat 3 on the outside of the layer 2.
