Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable usage under high energy state by forming a zinc coating layer and a brass coating layer onto the surface of a conventional electric discharge machining wire material composed of brass, copper, tungsten, molybdenum and the like. CONSTITUTION:A zinc coating layer 2 of several to 20mum thick is formed onto the surface of an electric discharge machining wire, i.e. a core wire 1 having diameter of 0.25mm, composed of brass, then a thicker brass coating layer 3 of several to 30mum thick is formed thereon through hot dipping, electrical galvanization or deposition. When the wire is employed in electric discharge machining, the outside brass coating layer 3 is subjected to heat and impact caused by continuous single discharge under normal discharge state and causes some loss, but the zinc coating layer 2 is exposed and evaporated and passes through a machining groove before the coating layer 2 is damaged, and thereby the core wire 1 is not subjected to heat. Consequently, it can be used under high energy state and concentrated discharge causes no blow-off of wire.
