Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the heat resistance and reliability of a glass fiber by coating the outside of the fiber with a layer of a mixture of electrically conductive powder with a polymer and forming a metallic coat on the outside of the mixture layer. CONSTITUTION:The outside of a glass fiber 1 is coated with a primary coat 2 made of synthetic resin, and the outside of the layer 2 is coated with a layer 3 of a pasty mixture of electrically conductive powder of metal, alloy or the like with a polymer such as oil, fat, natural resin or synthetic resin. After drying the layer 3, a metallic coat 4 is formed on the outside of the layer 3 by electroplating or other method. Thus, the heat resistance and mechanical strength of the glass fiber can be enhanced, and the generation of a strain in the glass due to thermal expansion and the deterioration due to water permeation can be prevented.
