Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a casting having an abrasion resistant surface by forming a layer of carbide or double carbide powder of high hardness and abrstion resistance on the bottom or top surface of a non-ferrous metallic casting by utilizing a difference in specific gravity and the air shielding characteristic of flux. CONSTITUTION:Powder of carbide or double carbide having a specific gravity differing from that of non-ferrous metal and high hardness and abrasion resistance is added to molten flux of a low m.p., a high b.p., and low viscosity. The flux mixed with this powder is cast together with molten non-ferrous metal by simultaneous teeming or centrifugal force. Then, the powder separates by from the molten non-ferrous metal and the powder layer is formed on the bottom or top surface of the non-ferrous metal, thus the casting having the abrasion resistant surface after the casting is obtained.
