Abstract
PURPOSE:When opticl fibers are produced through the MCVD process, the core part is made from P2O5-F-GeO2-SiO2 glass to reduce the dipping to level as low as possible and prevent the reduction in communication performance. CONSTITUTION:The glass compositin of the core part is made P2O5-F-GeO2-SiO2. As a F source, is used SiF4, CF4 or SF6. F is very volatile and stays in the collapse as SiF4. Further, F remarkably lowers the refractive index. On collapsing, both of F and GeO2 (increasing the refractive index) vaporize. As a results, these actions are compensated to lower the dip 10 in the refractive idex distribution as shown in the figure.
