CONSTITUTION:In an erasing head, the 1st and 2nd permanent magnets 2, 3, and the 3rd permanent magnet 4 erasing the magnetic field in lengthwise direction of a tape 1 at the right side are provided. With this constitution, magnetized direction M1 of magnetic particles of the tape 1 is oriented in broadwise direction of the tape 1 with the magnetic field of a gap 5, and the magnetic field is zero at the boundary of the magnets 3, 4, the M1 is changed to an easy magnetization axis +M1 or -M1 as AC demagnetization state. Then, the magnetized direction goes to M2 by the magnetic field of the magnet 4, and the magnetization becomes +M2 or -M2 when the magnet 4 is detached for complete demagnetization. Thus, complete demagnetization can be made the same as AC demagnetization without using power, and recording without noise can be made.
