PURPOSE:To reduce or eliminate false signals effectively without spoiling the fidelity of color reproduction, color resolution, etc., by permitting an electric circuit to detect and correct the generation of a false chrominance signal when the frequency component of a signal based upon the luminance difference of an object is within a chrominance-signal carrier band. CONSTITUTION:The output of an image pickup tube 1 which has an incorporated stripe filter is amplified by a preamplifier 2, and an LPF3 extracts a luminance signal Y from its amplification output. Further, a BPF6 for control-signal extraction extracts a high-frequency band signal close to the extraction band of the LPF3, and the output terminal of the BPF6 is connected to an arithmetic circuit 7 which generates a value proportional to a smoothed signal by detecting the extraction output. A BPF4, on the other hand, extracts a signal with a band next to the frequency band that the BPF6 extracts, and its extracted signal is inputted to a chrominance signal detecting circuit 5. The arithmetic circuit 7 is controlled by a signal from the circuit 5 to reduce or eliminate false signals effectively without spoiling the fidelity of color reproduction, color resolution, etc.
