Abstract

PURPOSE:To hold a honeycomb catalyst positively and easily by winding a sealing member on the outer circumference of the honeycomb catalyst and uniformly compressing a case of the outer circumference while further winding a sealing member on the outer circumference. CONSTITUTION:The elastic supporting members 2, 3 in combination with sealing are wound to the axial direction both end sections and central section of the outer circumference of the honeycomb catalyst 4, and bent sections 2b contacting with the end surface of the catalyst are formed to the axial direction both end supporting members 2. The elastic supporting members 2, 3 are supported positively by compressing a fixed volume of the case 5 with a large diameter to the whole outer circumference by uniform pressure so that the both end sections are throttled. When the catalyst cassette is housed in a chamber shaped by an exhaust pipe 9 and a case 12, both ends of the elastic supporting member 3 are tightened by means of sealing rings 6, 7 so as to be held from the outer circumference of the cassette, and the cassette is pressed into the chamber.
