Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniformly compress a honeycomb catalyst and protect it from damage, by assembling a honeycomb catalytic converter while thrusting the central part of a casing. CONSTITUTION:An upper casing portion 1 and a lower casing portion 2, which constitute a casing 3, are assembled with each other so that a honeycomb catalyst 5 around which a holding material 4 is wound is housed in the internal opening 3a of the casing 3. Flanges 1a, 2a on both the sides of the casing 3 are pinch-held between an upper die 7 and a lower die 8. At that time, the central sections of the upper and the lower casing portions 1, 2 are also pushed enough by thrust members 9 to compress the holding material 4 almost uniformly on the entire surface of the honeycomb catalyst 5. Both the flanges 1a, 2a are then welded on each other. As a result, the catalyst 5 is firmly held by the holding material 4 in the casing 3.
