Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the number of components of a catalytic converter and simplify a structure of a catalytic converter by making a radius of a central part of a tubiform body which receives the catalytic substrate small and surrounding the central part of the substrate with a supporting mat. CONSTITUTION: A gauge of a central part of a tubiform body 3 for a catalytic converter 1 is made smaller than both ends of the tubiform body 3 and a catalytic substrate 7 is mounted in the tubiform body 3. A supporting mat 13 is wrapped around the central part of the catalytic substrate 7 and the catalytic substrate 7 is supported at the central part of the tubiform body 3 through the mat 13. The mat is made of a material which expands with heat, and increases the compressing force in the radial direction of the central part of the tubiform body. Thereby, a structure of the catalytic converter can be simplified.
