Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the heat-exchange efficiency by a method wherein a large number of nicks are cut along the direction opposite to that of the flow of heat- exchanging fluid passing between fins and said nicks are raised up to form chevron segments so as to give disturbance to the flow of the fluid at the finned part of the heat exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: A large number of nicks 13 are cut parallel to the direction normal to that of the flow of the fluid passing between the fins (or nearly to the direction of the row of pipes) and said respective nicked segments 14 are bent at the center along the direction of width between nicks in theform of chevron to the base plate of fins in the form of arch bridge in order to change the heights of each of the chevron segments 16', 16" and 16''' so as to provided positional lags toward the flow of liquid at the edges 13', 13" and 13''' of the adjoining chevron segmentgs. Owing to the existence of said chevron segments 16', 16" and 16''', the flow of the heat-exchanged fluid flowing along the fin surfaces is disturbed remarkably and complicatedly and consequently the formation of temperature boundary layer is prevented, resulting in remarkably improving the heat -exchange efficiency.
