Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound in high conversion with improved catalytic activity, by carrying out the reaction of a carboxylic acid ester with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a tert-amide together with a ruthenium-halogen catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula RCOOCH2R' (R and R' are 1W6C alkyl) is prepared by reacting a carboxylic acid ester or formula RCOOR' (pref. a methyl ester) with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst containing ruthenium and a halogen, and a tert-amide such as N,N-dimethylformamide, pref. at 150W300°C. The total pressure of CO and H2 is 50W500atm, pref. 100W400atm. The amount of the tert-amide is ≥0.1mol per 1 g-atom of ruthenium, or in a large excess to use the tert-amine also as a solvent.
