PURPOSE:To reduce cost by decreasing the number of parts by reading readout modes, which correspond to respective columns, out of a storage means when detecting data of respective columns, and by detecting data by a detection part in accordance with the readout modes. CONSTITUTION:When a changeover switch 9 is placed at a write side and a smaple card 1 is fed to a detection part 6 by rollers 2, an oscillator 3 generates clock pulses which synchronize with the column-by-column feed of the card 1; each time the clock pulse is generated, a data signal of each column detected by the detection part 6 is recorded in a prescribed address of an RAM5 in accordance with the write mode. When the changeover switch 9 is placed at a read side and a data card is sent to the detection part 6, on the other hand, set data is read out from the prescribed address of the RAM5 every time the clock pulse is generated by the oscilator, and supplied to a control circuit 7; and a multi- bit data signal of every column detected by the detection part 6 is stored in a register 8 and led out.
