Abstract

PURPOSE: Quick or slaked lime is added to an aqueous solution containing sodium carbonate to effect caustification, the resultant caustic slurry containing calcium carbonate is sent to the next stage where the separating lime slag is taken out of the systen, then the slag is crushed through a wet process and made to turn back to the reaction system, thus simplifying the process.
CONSTITUTION: Aqueous sodium carbonate 2 and quick lime 2 or slaked lime 3 are fed into the caustification tank 1 to effect caustification and the lime slag 11 taken out of the reaction system is sent to the wet-type crusher 16 where the slag is crushed so that it suspends in the caustification mixture containing calcium carbonate, preferably into particles of 10W15 micron sizes. The resultant lime milk 17 is made ot turn back to the tank so that surfaces of the lime remaining in the slag 11 are exposed to participate the caustification reaction. At the same time, the crushed product forms a slurry together with calcium carbonate and is taken out as calcium carbonate cake 9.
