Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the removal efficiency of sodium oxalate in a slurry liquor of the Bayer process, by blowing a gas into the slurry liquor of the Bayer process to form a slurry liquor enriched with sodium oxalate, and separating the sodium oxalate.
CONSTITUTION: A gas is blown into a slurry liquor containing a caustic aluminate solution, aluminum hydroxide particles and sodiumm oxalate particles in the Bayer process to form a slurry liquor enriched with sodium oxalate particles. The resultant white mud slurry containing foams (an aluminate solution containing solid aluminum hydroxide) is then separated and fed to a classifying apparatus. For mixing the foams in the white mud slurry liquor, a foam generating apparatus may be used, or a gas, e.g. air, may be introduced into the suction side of a pump for supplying the white mud slurry.
