Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnesium hydroxide cake causing no thixotropic phenomenon during transportation and capable of being easily slurried with water, by pressure-dehydrating a magnesium hydroxide slurry to a predetermined water content followed by crushing to below a specified grain size.
CONSTITUTION: Alkali is added to sea water, and the resulting about 30% magnesium hydroxide slurry is pressure-dehydrated to prepare a magnesium hydroxide cake with a water content of 40W15, esp. 30W20%. This cake is crushed to a grain size below 20, esp. 10mm, hermetically packed, and stored or transported. By mixing an adequate amt. of water into the cake and agitating them a magnesium hydroxide slurry can be prepared.
