Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent water or steam from exerting their effects, which result in enabling to perform a measurement immediately in the proximity of a rolling mill, by a method wherein each leg length of a H-steel is determined by using water as a medium from an ultrasonic wave, and a deviation of a center is measured from the results. CONSTITUTION:Two water column type ultrasonic distance measuring gauges 15 and 16 are mounted facing and opposite to each other and at the upper and the lower part of a H-steel 1 to be measured so that they can move in a lateral direction. The water column type ultrsonic distance measiring gauges 15 and 16 operate such that ultrasonic pulses are emitted to an object 1 to be measured against which water is jetted through water columns 17 and a reflection wave from the surface of the object to be measured is received by an ultrasonic transmitter and receiver 19. The water column type ultrasonic distance measuring gauges 15 and 16 computes a distance from the ultrasonic transmitter and receiver 19 to the surface of the H-steel positioned facing and opposite to the transmitter and receiver 19. Each leg length of the H-steel is determined from the measurements, and the deviation of the center of the H-steel is computed from the result.
