Abstract

PURPOSE: To collect fine particle, mist or the like in an exhaust gas in low pressure loss and high filtering ratio as well as to regenerate and restore a filter by constituting the filter from a honeycomb structure comprising porous silicon carbide ceramic.
CONSTITUTION: In plural pores J provided to a honeycomb H, one open at one end part is closed at the other end part and, in adjacent passing pores J, alternately opened and closed end parts are arranged so as to be different mutually. Therefore, when an exhaust gas is passed from the pore J open at one end to the adjacent pore J closed at the other end through a partition wall F, fine particle, mist or the like in the exhaust gas are caught to filter and purify the passing gas. When a switch is closed and the haneycomb H is heated to high temp, because carbon fine particle or mist is burned off and exhausted, the filter can be easily regenerated.
