Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the degradation of the titled monomer during storage, transportation or preparation, and to improve its stability remarkably without lowering the polymerization reactivity, by adding a chelating agent such as aminocarboxylic acid, phosphoric acid, etc. and a nitroso compound to the monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A cationic vinyl monomer of formula (R1 is H or OH; R2 and R3 are alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; R4 is H, benzyl or R2; A is O or NH; R is alkylene or hydroxyalkylene; X- is anionic counter ion) is incorporated with (A) a chelating agent selected from aminocarboxylic acids, oxycarboxylic acids, polycarboxylic acids, phosphoric acid, polyphosphoric acids, their salts, dialkylglyoximes, 1,3-diketones, semicarbazides, dipyridyl, and phenyl salicylate, and (B) a nitroso compound. The weight ratio of A:B is 100:(0.01W10). The preferable combination of the additives is ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, phosphoric acid, etc. as the component (A) and p-nitrosophenol, etc. as the component (B).
