Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure accurately the absolute weight of exhaust gas constituents by driving variably a suction pump based on a signal of the difference in pressure between the upstream and downstream sides of an orifice provided in a duct so as for the difference in pressure to take a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:In the duct between the outlet 5 of an exhaust gas induction pipe 4 and the suction pump 12 is arranged a particle-collecting filter 9 traversing the whole cross-sectional area of the duct. Moreover, the suction pump 12 is driven by a variable-speed motor 14 and further the orifice 31 is arranged in the duct below the filter 9. And, the difference in pressure between the upstream and downstream sides of the orifice 31 is detected by a differential pressure detector 34 and, based on the output signal of this detector 34, the rotational number of the variable-speed motor 14 is controlled so as for the difference in pressure to take a prescribed value. By this constitution, a large amount of particles can be collected in a short time and the absolute weight of the exhaust gas constituents can be measured accurately.
