Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the negative ion effectively by facing the incident face of a photoelectric multiplier tube where the high negative potential is applied on the ion path with a conversion electrode then applying the high positive potential on the conversion electrode and converting the negative ion into the positive ion. CONSTITUTION:The ion from an ion source 1 is fed to a tetra-pole mass spectrograph 6 and to detect the passed ion (i) by means of a photoelectric multiplier tube 7. Here a first diode D1 to be applied with high negative potential is faced with a conversion electrode 8 while holding an ion path between them and a shield electrode 11 is arranged between them. When detecting the negative ion the negative ion is attracted to the direction of the conversion electrode 8 and collided against it to produce the positive secondary ion which is attracted by a shield electrode 11 and fed to a diode D1, thereby the negative ion can be detected efficiently even under low ion accelerating voltage.
