Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform freezing of a clamped mold quickly and obtain a frozen mold having the required thickness and strength of the frozen layer by passing a cooling gas forcibly into the clamped mold consisting of mulled sand contained in a freezing box. CONSTITUTION:A clamped mold 3 with a molding flask 4 is placed on a chill plate 6 made of a metallic plate of Al or the like of good conductivity pierced with multiple holes. The plate 6 in this state is contained in a freezing box 2 having a gas feed pipe 1 in the upper part and a manifold 7 and an air release pipe 8 communicating with an air release pump 9. Thence, the cooling gas 1 in the box 2 is passed forcibly in the mold 3 by operating the pump 9, whereby the mold 3 is frozen. The waste gas is released into the atmospheric air through the manifold 7. For example, dry ice is used as a generating source for the gas 1.
