Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a furan mold which causes no cementation despite the repeated casting of cast steel by kneading and molding molding sand and ignition additives of enzyme type, saccharides type and alcohol type together with a furan resin binder and a hardener.
CONSTITUTION: A furan mold is crushed to sand grains, after which a furan resin binder, a hardener (e.g.; toluene sulfonic acid), and ignition additives of enzyme type, saccharides type and alcohol type are added to this molding sand having a large content of residual carbon respectively at prescribed ratios, and the mixture is kneaded and molded, whereby a furan mold is made. Thence, cast steel, stainless cast steel, etc. are cast by using this furan mold. As a result of this casting, the decomposed gases of the carbon, furan resin binder, etc. stuck to the molding sand are burned by the air in the molding sand. At this time, carbons are mostly turned to CO2 by the catalytic effect of the ignition additives, whereby the CO which is the factor for cementation is decreased considerably, and the cementation to cast steel is prevented over a long period of time.
