Abstract

PURPOSE:To jet stabilized liquid drops at a low driving voltage, by applying an ink jet driving voltage to an electromechanical transducing means in synchronization with the vicinity of the maximum point of damping oscillation in a nozzle oscillation system. CONSTITUTION:A voltage is applied to a piezoelectric element 9 in the same direction as polarizing voltage and the voltge is maintained. At printing, said voltage application is removed so as to return a wall 5 outward. Then the voltage having the reverse direction is applied so as to further deform the wall 5 outward. When the ink 6 is sucked in, the maximum value 35 of the damping oscillation 32 occurs in the oscillation system comprising the piezoelectric element 9, the wall 5, and ink 6. In the vicinity of said maximum value, the reverse voltage is applied to the piezoelectric element 9 again so as to bend the piezoelectric element 9 and the wall 5 inward to the side of a pressure chamber 2. The damping oscillation 32 is a transient phenomenon corresponding to the removal of the voltage from the piezoelectric element 9 and the application of the reverse voltage thereto. Since time delay occurs, it is desirable to set the pulse width in the vicinity of the maximum value 35 of the damping oscillation 32.
