Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrodeposited objec having smooth surfaces by differing the electrolytic operation conditions between rotary cathode and an electrolytic bath periodically from a steady state and giving precession motion to the rotary cathode in particular, in a molten salt electrodeposition method.
CONSTITUTION: Electrolytic operation conditions such as relative moving speeds of rotary cathode and an electrolytic bath, electrolytic current density, eletric current intermission ratios or current intermission periods are changed periodically from a steady state, and precession motion is given to the rotary cathode. For example, if the relative speeds of the electrodepositing surface and the electrolytic bath are lowered, the polarization layer before the electrodepositing surface increases its thickness and a large number of round blobs are formed on the electrodepositing surface growing freely in the polarization layer, whereby the rugged electrode surface is made. Next, if the relative speeds of the electrodepositing surface and the electrolytic bath are increased to restore the steady state, the ruggedness created on the surface is smoothed. By the repetition of such operations, the electrodeposition is continued over a long time.
