Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a steel material having a satin surface of extremely large surface roughness by repeating more than twice a series of processes of coating acid resistant ink or the like in the form of mist to the surface of the steel material then etching the uncoated parts thereof thence removing the acid resistant ink or the like.
CONSTITUTION: Acid resistant ink (e.g.; phenolic resin ink) or paint which is easy to remove with alkali solns., org. solvents, etc., is coated in the form of mist on the surface of a steel material by spraying, electrostatic painting, etc. Next, the uncoated parts of the surface of the steel material subjected to this coating treatment are etched with an etching soln. (e.g.; hydrochloric acid) of high corrosiveness. Thence, the smut produced in the etched parts is removed with a proper removing soln. (e.g.; mixed solns. of phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid), and the surface is rinsed; further, the coated acid resistant ink or the like is removed with alkali solns., org. solvents, etc. A series of such processes are repeated more than twice, whereby the intended satin surface steel material is obtained.
