Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the effective elimination of the harmful effect caused in a continuous heat treatment furnace making combination use of direct heating and indirect heating and the reduction of heat treatment costs possible by treating the leaking combustible gases from muffles adequately and easily in said furnace. CONSTITUTION:In a burner direct firing type heating zone, in the first half of the heating zone of a high temp. region (b), liquid fuel is burned by the excessive supply of combustion air to burners 12', whereby strip coils 11 under the protection of muffles 9 are heated. On the other hand, combustible gases such as H2 leaking through the skirt seals 10 of the muffles 9 are burned by the excess air and are made non-polluting. The waste gases of combustion are collectively released through a release port 17 then through a stack 19 by means of a suction fan 18. In the electric heating zones in the second half of the heating zone and a soaking zone, the air of the amt. enough for combustion of the combustible gases leaking from the muffles 9 is introduced through lead-in ports 16, so that the gases are burned.
