Abstract

PURPOSE:To modulate the phase independently of the frequency response characteristics of a PLL, by applying the modulation signal to a voltage-frequency converting circuit after being differentiated and adding the modulation signal before differentiation to a phase detection signal. CONSTITUTION:The modulation signal applied to an input terminal 1 is differentiated by a differentiating circuit 2 and is applied to a voltage-frequency converting circuit (VCO) 3 to obtain a modulated frequency signal PM at an output terminal 4, and the conventional modulation characteristics are obtained by a negative feedback loop PLL consisting of a frequency divider 5, a phase detector 6, an adding circuit 9, an active filter 8m and the VCO3. However, the modulation characteristic wherein the modulation signal applied to the input terminal 1 is applied to the adding circuit 9 are proportional to the conventional PLL response characteristics because the frequency divider 5 and the phase detector 6 have not the frequency characteristics. Thus, the modulation signal is applied to both circuits in a specific level relation to obtain the flat modulation characteristics up to a wide band from a low band of the modulation frequency.
