Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a pipe of low void content with only a simple heating vessel without using any special pressure-resisting vessel by utilizing a heat- shrinkable tape, in a method of producing a pipe wherein a fiber reinforced resin in a semi-cured state is layered around a mandrel and is hardened.
CONSTITUTION: A carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) 2 in a semi-cured state is layered around the mandrel 1 in a desired thickness, and further the heat- shrinkable tape 7 is wound thereon. Then, the resultant assembly is placed in the heating vessel 6 and is heated by a heater 3 to harden the semi-cured CFRP2, and simultaneously, an external pressure is uniformly applied from the outside periphery by the shrinking force of the tape. It is then taken out from the heating vessel 6, the tape 7 is removed and the mandrel 1 is also removed to obtain a CFRP pipe free of voids and excellent in interlaminar adhesion.
