Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a fluctuation in an effective beam pattern due to a beam deflecting angle, by a method wherein an effective oscillator caliber is controlled in accordance with the beam deflecting angle. CONSTITUTION:The number of soscillators, consisting of an effective oscillator train, is controlled by a scanning controller SC in accrodance with the beam deflecting angle theta so that an effective oscillating caliber D to an estimated nondispersion beam diameter DB is brought to D=DP/sintheta. This causes increasing of the effective oscillator caliber D as a beam deflecting angle theta increases, obtains a constantly uniform beam pattern irrespective of the beam deflecting angle theta of a sector scanning, and forms tomogram having a natural uniformity such that parts, being at an equal distance from a probe P, are all equal in term of the sctor scanning.
