Abstract
1514050 Ultrasonic inspection apparatus AUSTRALIA COMMONWEALTH OF 13 Sept 1976 [15 Sept 1975] 37754/76 Heading GIG Apparatus for the ultrasonic inspection of an object comprises a focused transducer array 1 including a central transducer element 2 and concentric, annular transducer elements 3, 4, and time delays 7-9, 17-19 which enable the focus of the transducer array to be varied during the transmission of ultrasonic pulses to the object and during the receipt of echoes from the object. The geometrical focus of the array is at point 5 but by adjusting the delay of the pulses supplied to transmitters 10-12 to be zero, small and large respectively, the ultrasonic wave front 13 is focused at point 14. By adjusting the time delay of the delays 17-19 to be large, small and zero respectively, the echoes from the wavefront 13 arrive simultaneously at an adder 20.
