Abstract
In the system during non-destructive testing using ultrasonics the n on-metallic inclusions are differentiated from fault conditions such as fissures. The differences are determined from form of the echo. A number of channels are controlled by a timing generator (4) by multiplexing acoustic transducers (1) with transmit receive amplifiers (2) coupled to a principal amplifier and multiplexing assembly (3). The echo (9) amplitudes are monitored (5) by comparing with a reference and the echos are also evaluated (6). The difference signals are applied to a combining circuit (7) to produce reflected radiation for transfer to an output unit (8).
