Abstract
1294219 Detecing vibration ultrasonically COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 1 Sept 1970 [15 Sept 1969] 41820/70 Heading H4D A method of detecting vibration in an object I comprises transmitting sound waves from a transducer 4 at a repetition frequency much higher than any expected vibration frequency under the control of a pulse generator 6; selecting echo signals from the transducer 4 using a range gate 13 whose delay is proportional to the transducer-object distance and measuring the amplitude and frequency of the echo signal envelope after the echo signals have passed through a low pass filter 14 whose cut-off is less than the repetition frequency of the emitted sound waves. The amplitude and frequency of the vibration of an object 1 immersed in liquid sodium 2 in a chamber 3 of a fast nuclear reactor are recorded on a paper recorder or oscilloscope 15. The p.r.f. is between 200 Hz and 1000 Hz and the filter cut-off is 50 Hz.
