Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate the high accurate flaw detection by arranging a group of ultrasonic locating elements in the form of checkers thereby to control the delay times upon transmission and reception.
CONSTITUTION: Several ten to hundred ultrasonic locating elements 2 are arranged in the from of checkers thereby to produce a locator 1 and are connected with the transmitter 3a and receiver 4 constituting the locator 3. The receiver 4 is connected with an amplifier 5, an adder 6 and a cathode ray tube 7, and the locator 3 and the adder 6 are connected with a transmission and reception controller 8. As a result, a preset one of the locating elements 2 is selected in accordance with the control signals of the controller 8 so that the ultrasonic wave generating pulses are fed from the transmitter 3a with a preset delay such that the ultrasonic waves are made to propagate in a cylindrical form. Then, the reflected echo, which is reflected from a defect portion of a test piece equipped with the locator 1, is received and is diaplayed in the cathode ray tube 7 after it is amplified and digitally added. And, the ultrasonic beam forms apparently one cylindrical locator so that the test piece as a shole is subjected to optical flaw detection.
