Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain nonpolarized light from partially polarized light or completely polarized light by disposing a double refractive optical material having a rugged surface or a double refractive optical material of which the optical axis is inclined with respect to the surface in a parallel beam system. CONSTITUTION:A polarizing prism 5 and calcite 6 provided with 1-2mum ruggedness on the surface are inserted into a parallel beam system disposed with rod lenses 3, 4 between fibers 1 and 2. The calcite 6 is cut in parallel with an optical axis 7, and the axis 7 is so adjusted as to be 45 deg. to the polarization direction of the prism 5 within the plane perpendicular to the advance direction of light. Although a protecting glass 8 is stuck on the rugged surface by means of an optical adhesive agent 9, it is equally well to form the respective elements into one body in a similar manner. The calcite of which the optical axis is made incident to diagonally with respect to the advance direction of light may be used in place of the celcite 6 having the rugged surface.
