Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit a mass production of electrode plates each of which is light weight and has a large strength and long life by, upon filling green paste, covering with woven fabric made of thermoplastic resin, applying a pressure to the thus- covered electrode plate and then drying the electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate is manufactured by filling green paste continuously into the band-shaped lattice body which is formed thin and has coarse meshes and is obtained by the expanding method. In this case, lead alloy sheet (a) is supplied from a feeder 1, and band-shaped lattice body (b) is formed by an expander 2, and on said band-shaped lattice body, the ears and legs of the electrode plate are formed by a punching machine 3. The electrode plate is filled with green paste by a filling machine 4, and then covered with woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, or mesh body (c) which is made of waterproof and acidproof thermoplastic resin, on one side or both sides, and then cut by a cutter 5 after roller pressing 4, and dried in a drier 6. The resin of woven fabrice (c) may be fused onto the electrode plate due to heat during drying, any may be penetrated into the electrode plate. Thus, electrode plates which are light-weight and have a large strength and long life can be manufactured continuously in large quantities.
