CONSTITUTION: Linearly polarized light is reflected by recording medium 1 and the plane of polarization is rotated by kerr rotation θk. The reflected light is further reflected by mirror 2 and then divided into two by beam splitter 3. Then, it is passed through detector 4 rotated by +θk from an extinction position to the incident light and detected by photodetector 5, and it is also passed through detector 8 rotated by -θk from the extinction position to the incident light and then detected by photodetector 9.
