Abstract

PURPOSE: To contrive compactness and light weight in the turbine in such a way that in a vertical shaft type reaction steam turbine, thrust loading produced at reaction stages can offset the gravity at the rotor part, with a steam inlet port arraned on the lower side and a steam outlet port on the upper side.
CONSTITUTION: In a reaction steam turbine, with an axle 1 arranged as a vertical shaft, static blades 4 and rotary blades 3 are arranged in the axial direction. A steam inlet pipe 7 is installed downward and a steam exhaust pipe 8 installed at the upper part. Steam flows as arrow A, which gives a revolving torque to the axle 1 at a reaction stage, and drives a driven gear 13 in rotary motion. A thrust loading (f) produced at a reaction stage offsets the weight in the rotational part of the turbine and in the rotor part 14 of the driven gear. Thus, it can leave out a thrust bearing of the steam turbine, and a thrust bearing of the driven gear is available for common use, so that the turbine can be contrived to be compact and light in the weight.
