Abstract

PURPOSE: To form thick, light-colored coating of uniform color tone excellent in resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and wear, by performing usual anodic oxidation of the surface of Al, then by performing anodic oxidation by using a specific electrolytic soln.
CONSTITUTION: Al or Al alloy product is degreased with an aqueous soln. contg. NaOH, the neutralized with acid such as HNO3 etc. and is washed. The product is anodic oxidized as usual in an aqueous soln. contg. 15% H2SO4 to form porous oxide coating. The product is then anodic oxidized by using aqueous soln. contg. 10W300g/l maleic acid, 1W10g/l H2SO4 as electrolytic soln., and its pores are sealed by immersing it in an ion exchange soln. at ≥95°C temp. Hereby thick, light-colored oxide coating excellent in resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and wear, which is of yellow or brown color lighter than that which is expected from its thickness, is obtained.
