Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart superior reproducibility in the visible light region, by providing a photosensitive layer containing a specified disazo pigment on a conductive substrate.
CONSTITUTION: To a charge transferring substance of a photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate is added a disazo pigment represented by general formula I in which A is formula II, III, or IV; X, Ar1 are an aromatic or heterocyclic ring; Ar2, Ar3 are an aromatic ring; R1, R3 are hydrogen, lower alkyl, or the like; and R2 is lower alkyl, carboxy, or the like. This pigment is effective as a charge carrier generating substance. It is synthesized by diazotizing e.g. 1,4-bis(2-aminostyryl) benzene isolating its tetraazoniumsalt, and coupling this with a corresponding coupler in a proper organic solvent in the presence of an alkali, thus permitting a charge carrier generating substance having superior sensitivity in a short wavelength side to be obtained.
