Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide graphite with different structure at various sections by a method wherein a spherodizing agent is placed in the cavity of a mold for cast products and molten gray iron is poured in it.
CONSTITUTION: For example, the disk brake rotor of an automobile has a boss (a) and breaking parts (b). It is desirable for the boss to have spheroidal graphite structure having strength and rigidity, for the breaks (b) to have flake graphite structure, and for the boundary section (c) to have ascicular graphite structure. To achieve this requirement, spheroidizing agent grains 5 are placed at the position corresponding to the boundary (c) of the product cavity 3, and molten metal is poured from the sprue. Then, the molten metal contacts the agent 5 in the cavity 3, is sequentially reacted, and forms spheroidal graphite structure on the inner part of the mold to be filled thereafter. In this manner, graphite structure is adjusted corresponding to functions which each part must perform.
