Abstract

PURPOSE: A solution of brown algae resulting from the alkali treatment of brown algae and another solution of red algae resulting from acid treatment of red algae are used to produce an artificial feed with high sea water resistance, being suitably used as a feed for ear shells and turban shells.
CONSTITUTION: A brown algae such as "kajime" or "arame"(Eiseria bicyclis) is dissolved in a dilute alkali aqueous solution and another solution containing a coagulant such as calcium chloride is added to the resulting solution to coagulate alginic acid, proteins and attractants, which are collected and washed with water. The product is dissolved in a weak alkali solution to prepare a brown alga solution. In the meantime, a red alga such as aga-agar or "ogonori" is is treated with a dilute acid aqueous solution to prepare a red algae solution. Then, the brown alga solution, the red alga solution and/or a polysaccharide are mixed and a material containing animal or vegetable protein is added thereto. The resultant solution is poured into a coagulation bath to effect coagulation and the coagulated product is formed and dried.
