Abstract
PURPOSE: To almost thoughly separate and remove V in an aqeuous alkali chromate soln. by adding CaSO4 to the soln. and allowing them to react with each other in a specified pH range.
CONSTITUTION: CaSO4 is added to an aqeous alkali chromate soln. contg. V in a Ca/V molar ratio of ≥2, preferably 4W10, and after adding caustic alkali to ajust the soln. to 10.5W13pH as required, they are allowed to react with each other at ordinary temp. or above for ≥10min to form a slightly soluble V compound. Solid- liq. separation is then carried out to obtain V-free alkali chromate. The separated V-contg. residue is repulped with water and adjusted to 1W7pH with sulfuric acid to form a CaSO4 precipitate as well as leach most of the V into the soln. The CaSO4 is recovered by solid-liq. separation and recycled to the next process of removing V from alkali chromate. The V-contg. soln. is concd. by heating and recovered as vanadic acid.
