Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent raining phenomenon in a stack by a method wherein the inside surface of an upper portion of a stack is lined with a hygroscopic member for trapping the moisture contained in the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas flows upward while condensing its moisture on the internal surface of a stack, a portion of the condensed water is entrained in the flow of the exhaust gas as droplets. The condensed water moving upward along the internal surface of the stack and the water droplets entrained in the exhaust gas are deflected in the direction from the center to the outside of the stack, thereby caused to collide with the internal surface of the stack and move upward while forming a liquid film. This upward-moving water is taken into a trough 3 through slits between the trough 3 and a hygroscopic member 2. On the other hand, the water droplets which have failed to collide with the trough on the side of the internal surface of the stack collide instead with the hygroscopic member 2 on the upper side of the trough 3 and penetrate into the inside portion of the hygroscopic member 2 due to capillary action, and this water falls gradually under gravity into the trough 3. The water collected in the trough 3 is discharged to the outside through a drain pipe 5.
