Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the leak of ink from nozzles by providing a subtank with a pressure-releasing value in an ink jet printer with the subtank mounted on the main tank and a carriage. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet printer is provided with the main tank in which ink is storated and a subtank ST into which ink from the main tank is supplied through a supply tube TB, in which the subtank ST is mounted on a carriage CA so that ink can be supplied through an ink supply path NT to an ink jet nozzle NZ. And, furthermore, the upper part of the subtank is provided with an air vent filter TS and a pressure-releasing valve PB. Thus, at the time when ink in the main tank is exchanged, pressure can be released from the pressure-releasing valve PB even when the inside of the subtank ST is compressed due to the chocking of the air vent filter TS, and also the leak of ink from the tip of the nozzle NZ can be prevented.
