Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily and rapidly improve physical properties, e.g., air permeability, of a muddy material of high water content with a high efficiency, by adding and mixing the muddy material with a high molecurar compound of high water absorption.
CONSTITUTION: A muddy material of high water content is added and mixed with a high molecular compound of high water absorption, in order to improve the air pemeability of the muddy material whose high water content causes troubles during a disposal operation. The muddy material may be a sludge generated as a by-product in a water decontamination process or excretions of cattles. The high molecular compound is an addition or graft polymerization product of a starch of cellulose with acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, etc., or a bridged or polymerized product of an acrylic salt type compound. The high molecular compound is preferably one capable of retaining water therein at a mix. rate of 300 times its own weight. Owing to the usage of the high molecular compound, a modifier is not necessary, and also there is not a substantial increase in a volume of the muddy material to be treated. Consequently, it is possible to elongate a reserving period of the muddy material in the fermentation vessel.
